Ash
ExperimentalPerformance
Recommended for early experimental use. Researchers tested sensors in Ash with reasonable results, but had issues with the sensor installation depth. In ring-porous species, the sensor must be installed in the outtermost xylem for best results.
Installation Tips
- Likely will need to use thick-bark installation method.
- Use of the new 7mm probe strongly recommended. This probe has consistently shallow installation depth, as required by this specie.
References
- In ring-porous and thick-barked species, improper installation depth was a major source of error in ystem measurements, resulting in little to no variability of readings. The problem occurred most frequently for microtensiometers in ash trees, due to small sapwood depth, and required reinstallation to ensure correct placement.
